Want to know the woman behind St. Vincent’s newest modeling agency?
Some of you may know her, she’s been in the industry for a number of years as a model. After much debate and a degree, she decided the time was now. Meet Jodine Jackson!
COCO: Who is Jodine? Tell us about yourself.
Jodine: I am Jodine Carla Jackson, 27 years old. I have a beautiful one year old baby girl, her name is Xen. I graduated in 2013 from Hunter College in New York with a Bachelor degree in Psychology.
When I was 5 years old, my parents enrolled me in a local modeling agency called Mije. From there, my love for the agency grew. I often thought that my path would be fashion designing but not everyone has that skill and patience lol. I have walked in many fashion shows and done some print work, including commercials. I would say that my favorite is runway, I love the thrill of the catwalk. While at University, I did a number of fashion shows, I also got the opportunity to walk in 2009 Nolcha New York Fashion Week. In 2011, I produced my own fashion show in St. Vincent while on vacation from school. The show was called ‘Stiletto’ and featured local and New York based designers.
COCO: What inspired you to start Paragon Model Management?
Jodine: For a number of years I have been wanting to manage my own models. My inspiration came from being in a modeling agency for most of my life and watching my then manager try her best at taking care of all her models. After completing my degree, I thought the time was perfect to fulfill one of my dreams.
COCO: How did Paragon Model Management get its name?
Jodine: The name “Paragon” means a symbol or model of excellence or perfection. I was searching for the ideal name that I thought would represent what I envisioned my agency to be or will become. I believe that everything is a process, I did not recruit supermodels, however, my models have immense potential and I intend to mold them into the perfect version of themselves.
COCO: What challenges did you face in setting up the modeling agency?
Jodine: I would say my biggest challenge was the screening process. Because I have such high expectations for the agency, I was very pick during the first recruiting cycle. Another challenge that I faced and still facing is lack of resources. For example, funding for photoshoots etc. and venues for our activities.
COCO: Where do you see Paragon one year from now?
Jodine: One year from today, I see PMM as the premiere agency in SVG.
COCO: What advice would you give to persons considering modeling as a career?
Jodine: If you are considering modeling, my honest advice would be to make sure that you have what it takes. Not everyone can model or is a model, not just looks but modeling demands a certain discipline. Grooming yourself is vital, make it your lifestyle, always be poised and ready. Lastly, learn to strut in 6 inch heels!
Never give up! You can get a thousand Nos but the only Yes that you need to start is from yourself.
