To kick off the New Year, we’re featuring Caribbean by heritage but English by birth, Rachael Williams. Get to know how her modeling career began and how she ended up in Vogue Curvy twice! Rachael is signed to Bridge Models which is a London curve agency representing models in the UK and internationally. Bridge Models launched last year with established agents Beth Willis as Director. The ethos of the agency is to ‘bridge the gap’ between standard and plus size in the fashion industry.
COCO: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Why modelling and when did you first begin modeling?
Rachael: I never actually wanted to be a model. It was my cousin who entered me into the beauty pageant. At that point in my life I had very low self-esteem and [lacked] confidence (due to being bullied in school); I was so shocked I won but to my family, this was just the beginning.
COCO: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Rachael: Be true to yourself.
COCO: If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would say to them?
Rachael: I would love to meet Cleopatra and ask her if she really did bathe in milk and honey daily!
COCO: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?
- My sister
- My phone
COCO: If I was to open your fridge, what would I see?
Rachael: Lots of veggies and fruits. Chocolate cream cakes. Cheese. That’s about it.
COCO: Tell us 5 things you can’t live without.
- My sister
- My iPad
- Covet Fashion game
- My bed
COCO: What makeup items are a must have for you daily?
- My tinted moisturiser
- Mac red lip glass
- Lipglam moisturiser
COCO: What three items do you take when you leave your house every day?
- My phone
- A bottle of water
- An umbrella
COCO: How do you prepare for a modeling shoot?
Rachael: It really depends on the shoot. But I’ll always wash and prep my hair, fully wax, eat clean a few days before just so I’m not bloated and to prevent any spots from appearing on my face. I always research on the company just to see what previous images/campaign shoots that they done. Also, if I’ve received a mood board I’ll take another look so I can work out my poses or my “look” on the day.
COCO: Do you work out?
Rachael: I most definitely do. People seem to believe that plus size models don’t work out but I exercise maybe 3-4 times a week. I do mainly muscle training exercises with added cardio and strength training.
COCO: Tell us about your diet.
Rachael: I eat everything…but in moderation. I always have a big breakfast or big lunch. Then a desirable dinner 🙂 Dinner is my fav meal of the day as I’m either enjoying it with my parents or my sister and nephews!
COCO: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Rachael: Caribbean Oxtail with rice and peas, macaroni cheese and vegetables.
COCO: And what does beauty mean to you?
Rachael: Beauty means not being scared just to be you!
COCO: Gracing the website of Vogue Curvy not once but twice, what was that experience like?
Rachael: That was AMAZING! I think it’s like every models dream to appear in Vogue so to have done it twice was definitely an amazing achievement. I think I screenshot the article like 5 times!!! My parents sent out broadcast links to their whole office!
